John Getty graduated from Cambridge University in 1971 with a Double First Class Honours gaining FRCS England in 1976. He did his orthopaedic training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and St. Bartholomews Hospital in London, becoming a Consultant in Sheffield in 1981.
His specialist interest has been in lumbar spine disorders and lower limb joint replacements with a particular interest in revision knee replacement surgery. He runs the Rheumatoid Arthritis Surgical Clinic for lower limb and neck problems. He has published in peer review journals throughout his career.
Mr Getty is a member of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Spinal Disorders and a Reviewer for the “Spine“. He is President of the European Rheumatoid Arthritis Surgical Society and was President of the British Orthopaedic Association for the year 2007. He was elected onto the council of The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2007.
