Here he undertook his basic surgical training, passed the Membership to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow in 2000 and undertook a highly sought after Fellowship in trauma surgery at the Institute of Orthopaedic Surgery in Norwich.

Alex moved to Sheffield in 2001 after being appointed a Specialist Registrar on to the North Trent Higher Orthopaedic Surgical Training programme. During this time he was awarded prizes for his research interests that have been published in international orthopaedic journals. His training has seen him work with many highly respected Orthopaedic Surgeons including two past presidents of the British Orthopaedic Association (Mr H Phillips, Mr J Getty), two past presidents of the British Trauma Society (Mr J Albert, Mr A D Patel), and a past president of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (Mr M Glasgow).

After completing the specialised training exams in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery in 2005 Alex continued to developed his main interest in knee surgery and sports trauma by doing two Fellowships in knee arthroplasty at Harrogate Hospital with Mr Nick London and soft tissue and arthroscopic knee surgery at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield with Mr Jez Brown and Mr Paul Sutton.

In 2007 he was appointed in the NHS as Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Rotherham General Hospital. He specialises in knee surgery providing a service from arthroscopy and soft tissue surgery for sports injuries through to arthoplasty (primary and revision) for arthritis and continues to develop the service at Rotherham enhancing the departments growing reputation. Alex is presently a member of the British Orthopaedic Association and British Association for Surgery of the Knee and continues to be actively involved in research, teaching and training junior doctors and future surgeons as faculty on national exam courses and arthroscopic workshops.

"It is nearly 3 months since you performed an arthroscopy on my right knee and I want to thank you once again. The best Christmas present I could have wished for, to be able to walk relatively pain free and for reasonable distances is such a pleasure."   - After knee arthroscopy surgery ( Soft Tissue Knee Surgery )
